A day of sunshine and showers!  But our visit to Lancaster Castle and Lancaster town was still much enjoyed by forty eight Towneley Hall Society members and friends.

In the Castle, our guide showed us The Shire Hall, The Crown Court (once “The Hanging Court” of the County, the old cells (where some of us experiences what it was like to be locked in a dark dungeon), Hadrian’s Tower (dating from the reign of King John) and we were regaled with tales of misdemeanours and the subsequent punishments!

Our guided tour over, we were then free to explore the town which boasts, amongst other things, a beautiful church, an excellent city museum, a maritime museum  and, of course, shops!
