It was a rainy old day!  We had to dodge the showers!  But our welcome from The Midland Hotel was warm!  

 

We were treated to guided tours of both the outside and inside of this historic old hotel - designed by Charles Trubshaw and opened in 1903 on behalf of the Midland Railway to serve Manchester’s Central Railway Station.  It cost a million pounds to build in 1900 which is the equivalent, today of over  £120million.

 

Originally the building housed a wonderful theatre as well as a gentleman’s coffee house - today the theatre has been transformed into a function hall and three floors of bedrooms!  Many changes have happened over the years but it is still a splendid hotel.
