Keeping the House in Order

A wonderfully informative talk from the halls curator, Alison Cooper and Museum Assistants Terri and Jenny - we learnt why the cataloguing of the hall’s collection was so important.  Fifteen thousand items are on the newly installed data base with possibly ten thousand more still to be added.  In th’old days everything was entered in registers and these are still at the hall but the modern data base allows for quick and comprehensive searches of items and individual collections.
We also were given an insight into the work done in preparing the items for storage whilst the current building work is taking place.
We were shown a film (speeded up - a whole days work in a few minutes!)  of how the chandeliers in the Regency Rooms were dismantled and. after the talk, society members were able to visit the Regency Rooms to see for themselves what had been happening during the dismantling period.

The lecture was preceded by the Society’s AGM during which the new staff members were welcomed and the new Hall Manager, Sally Smith gave an update on hall matters.
